what is a Modern Moai?
A Modern Moai is a small group of friends who meet in person on a regular basis to build meaningful connection.
Modern Moai is a contemporary twist on the Japanese tradition of belonging to a Moai which were often assigned in childhood.
Being part of a Modern Moai is a simple way to ward off loneliness and build strong social bonds that transform loneliness and stops social isolation in its tracks.
we are wired for social connection
As human beings, social connection is vital to our health and wellbeing. In fact, we are biologically wired to be socially connected. However, in our busy, modern lives, it is so easy to neglect connection.
There are so many other priorities drawing on our time and attention that often nurturing our friendships falls to the bottom of our priority list.
This can lead to us feeling lonely and disconnected.
the loneliness epidemic
In 2023, The World Health Organization declared loneliness as a global public health concern and launched a world-wide commission on social connection.
According to Former U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek Murthy's Advisory on the Healing Effects of Social Connection and Community, 50% of adults experience loneliness. The impacts of loneliness on our mental health and wellbeing are extensive, social connection is proven to increase happiness and improve both our mental and physical health.
